about

This is a biggie.... about as prog as we can get! The music came from an idea Janette had floating about on the piano, which Brian then developed with various guitar synth atmospherics and then layers of trumpet and some interesting wailing through his Kaos pad! The lyrics were inspired by Prof. Brian Cox's series "Wonders of the Universe"... Janette took copious notes then honed them down to the eventual lyrics. A poignant look at our little spark of life in an immense and constantly changing universe. The orchestration - and immensity of the piece - reflects this. It's a journey, man!
(The image is of GRB090423 is the oldest dying sun we can see - well, the light from it. It's probably already gone!)

lyrics

Cosmos

Starlight illuminates the night sky, starlight illuminates our days
Living in the stelliforous era, countless galaxies light our way

In the night sky, we read the past
all that the heavens ever have broadcast
The speed of light through darkest space
brings us and ancient history face to face
We hear the echoes of every age
millenia before we took to the stage
And when our sun is dead and gone
someone somewhere might still see how we shone

Starlight illuminates the night sky, starlight illuminates our days
Living in the stelliforous era, we are woven through the Milky Way

No going back, no going back, nothing can ever last forever

GRB090423

Faraway the red star dies - oldest sun to reach our eyes
Starlight illuminates the night sky, starlight illuminates our days

Tomorrow can never be like today, today can never be like yesterday, as the universe slowly unravels in the universal journey towards decay. The arrow of time inevitably pulls us towards entropy. We are the cosmos made conscious, we are the cosmos made flesh. For the briefest, brightest moment this is our instant, this is our time. This fleeting glimpse is all I can ever call mine...

Not for Pussies Perth, UK

Not for Pussies came into being in 2008, although Brian and Janette Kidd have been together - and playing music together (and with others) for much, much longer.
We felt we're into an era in our lives where Bette Davis' quote about getting older (it's "not for pussies") felt very apt - and our music reflects this - and the experience of having lived a little! ...
