Poster boy

from Binary by Not for Pussies

about

This song arrived when a colleague and contemporary of Brian's died suddenly - a bon viveur, whose health was not a priority. This evoked a strange link with Brian's grandfather - Eck - who died when he was 50 and whom Brian never met.

lyrics

Poster boy

Snug, a borders country hotel,
we drank till late or early,
we knew each other well.
Talisker and smoke rings,
jousting tales and humorous asides.
The poster boy for dying in your 50s …
And now, like Dennis and the others,
the reckoning is coming.
Catching up with nature,
your spirit of adventurous rebellion
The poster boy for dying in your 50s …
My Grandad’s name was Eck
I never met him, but I know him.
I see him in the mirror.
He haunts me like the ghost of Christmas past.
His eyes are mine under his crinkled hair,
the mannerisms showing there.
He was another poster boy for dying in your 50s …
Dying in your 50s …
